![]() ![]() Some moms may need a different sized flange for each breast, and this may change over time. If you feel any nipple discomfort, pain, or blanching (turning white) while pumping, you may need a larger flange. The size of your flange is important for comfort and efficient pumping while pumping, your nipple should not rub or feel squished inside the flange tunnel, and all of your nipple should fit into the flange tunnel and move in and out freely. Some moms will experience nipple swelling while pumping, so it's important to observe how your nipples look during a pumping session. It might be difficult to know which size flange you need because your flange size has nothing to do with your breast size it has to do with the size of your nipples. I personally like my Spectra parts better (fewer pieces to wash) and use them on my Medela PISA so I don't need to carry a pump back and forth from work and only use the Medela at work since I want the mobility of my Spectra S1 or Ameda Mya when I'm at home. This Spectra Breast Shield Flange is designed for use with the Spectra S1 Plus, Spectra S2 Plus, Spectra Dew 350, and Spectra 9 Plus breast pumps and is compatible with Spectra bottles with a wide neck ( if you are double pumping, you will need two flanges). That allows you to still have a closed-system pump that stays clean while using the Medela parts if you like them better. What I discovered is that the Maymom Spectra-compatible backflow protector (that came with my 19mm parts set) will fit the Medela tubing, so you can cut the Medela tubing and put the backflow protector in the middle of the tube between the pump and the Medela parts (the Spectra OEM backflow protector won't work because the side that fits the flanges is too big, the Maymom brand's side that fits the flanges is fat, but also narrows down and the Medela tubing fits on the narrow part). The problem is that the Medela PISA doesn't have a backflow protector and the hospital version has a backflow protector that doesn't even fit the Medela pumps for home use. To use Medela parts, you need Medela tubing to attach to the Medela parts, but you can put the Medela tubing on the Spectra pump. While everyone says Medela Pump-in-style Advanced parts aren't compatible with Spectra pumps, that isn't completely true. The 28mm Ameda flanges were conical, but since one was and one wasn't I didn't even check for other Ameda sizes. The parts for the Ameda Mya are also compatible with Spectra, but the 24mm flanges are sort of spherical rather than conical and resulted in more rubbing for me. ![]() If your insurance covers parts, you can get one replacement set without an additional prescription, but an extra prescription from your doctor can get you one set each month. The phone numbers are on their respective websites. If you have any questions, and both had excellent customer service over the phone. The Spectra 20mm flanges are available at Target if you don't want to go through a company like, but if your insurance covers them, you may have to submit the receipts from Target rather than just ordering and getting them free. Amazon also sells Nenesupply Spectra-compatible parts, but I haven't tried Nenesupply. Maymom goes down to 13mm (I think) and also has adapters that fit inside of the Spectra flanges. 99 (15.99/Count) FREE delivery Fri, Aug 4 on 25 of items shipped by Amazon. Compatible with Spectra S1 S2 9 Plus Parts/Accessories. I got 19mm Maymom flanges (if you get more than one size, note that they aren't labeled on the side like Spectra flanges, you need to look into the tube and the number is at the end of the tube). 2pc 20mm Flange Compatible with Spectra/Motif Luna/Amada MYA Breastpumps Replacement to Pump Parts/Flanges/Shields.
